Department Description

The Department of Periodontics imparts academic knowledge and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium. It also includes surgical placement of implants and implant maintenance. The departmental goal is to provide the undergraduate students with a strong educational foundation in periodontology for their future career in dentistry and prepare the student for a lifelong learning process.

The Department offers many teaching, research, patient care that are conducted for undergraduate students by experienced faculty. Continuing education programs are regularly conducted by the department for faculty and students. The Department of Periodontology is committed to innovative educational program, transmitting scientific knowledge through study and discovery and enhancing the clinical skills of the students and staff.

Collectively, the Department of Periodontology offers students, faculty and scholars an opportunity to interact and participate in exceptional patient care, education and research work. The department of Periodontics is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment like elector surgery unit, laser and physiodispenser. The outpatient department is equipped with ergonomic dental chairs. The department has a library, computer and internet facility. The department also has a well-equipped sterilization section and a patient education section.

The following treatment procedures are provided by the department

• * Scaling and root planing
• * Local drug delivery
• * Gingivectomy/ gingivoplasty
• * Occlusal treatment which includes:occlusal adjustment and/or selective grinding
• * Stabilisation/ splinting,
• * Periodontal flap surgery and muco-gingival surgery
• * Esthetic periodontal procedures including treatment of gummy smile and gingival depigmentation
• * Gingival augmentation procedures for the treatment of recession
• * Pre-prosthetic procedures like crown lengthening and ridge augmentation,
• * Periodontal osseous surgery (resective and regenerative)
• * Periodontal regenerative therapies, including use of bone grafts, guided tissue regeneration and platelet concentrates
• * Root resection procedures for the treatment of periodontitis
• * Management of endodontic-periodontal lesions, with interdisciplinary co-ordination with endodontics Implant therapy
• * Treatment is also rendered using Lasers and electro surgery
