Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a branch of dentistry that deals with the art of diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, injuries and defects involving the orafacial regions. the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery has evolved through the ages from extracting teeth by tying a thread around the tooth to complex craniofacial surgeries like management of facio-maxillary injuries, maxillofacial pathologies including oral cancers, cleft lip and palate surgeries . various craniofacial syndromes and it also deals with procedures varying from placement of simple dental implants to complex facial reconstructions.
